DAS LEBEN EINER VISIONÄRIN
Harriet Hubbard Ayer wurde 1849 in Chicago geboren und widmete ihr Leben verschiedenen sozialen und kulturellen Themen. Sie heiratete mit 16 und bekam insgesamt 3 Töchter, von denen eine frühzeitig verstarb. Das Leben änderte sich für Madame Ayer als die Geschäfte ihres Mannes scheiterten und sie nun die Verantwortung für die Versorgung ihrer Kinder trug. Nach insgesamt 21 Jahren wurde die Ehe geschieden, was schließlich der Auslöser für die neue berufliche Richtung war...
Neben der Gründung ihres eigenes Kosmetik-Unternehmens in New York prägte ihre Karriere vor allem auch ihre Kolumne in der NEW YORK WORLD, wo sie bis zu ihrem Tod Ratgeber für Gesichts- und Körperpflege, typgerechter Bekleidung, gesunder Ernährung und Bewegung schrieb. Die Frauen aus der Zeit sehnten sich nach Schönheitsinformationen, was Madame Ayer schließlich 1899 dazu bewegte ein Buch über 500 Seiten zu verfassen und ihr Wissen weiter zu geben. 1903 verstarb Madame Ayer an einer Lungenentzündung in New York. Doch ihre Vision lebt bis heute weiter - nicht zuletzt ihre Kosmetikmarke AYER. Und eins möchte an dieser Stelle betont werden: Sie war die Vorreiterin der berühmten US-amerikanischen Kosmetikunternehmerinnen des 20. Jahrhunderts: Helena Rubinstein (1872-1965), Elizabeth Arden (1881-1966) und Estée Lauder (1908-2004).
